"To Work" New Paintings In Progress

27 Oct 2015 by yvette watson

Praise God!!—starting a new series of paintings—larger works called “To Work”. There will be eight pieces in the series, including the piece below. After transferring the sketch my process is to begin by blocking the painting in with acrylic then refine and complete the painting with alkyd oil paints. This one in progress is called “Winter Commute” and is 18 × 24, on canvas board. You can see the sketch in the inset box.

Shipping Fine Art

20 Oct 2015 by yvette watson

Usually when shipping art, great care is taken to protect the work for safe arrival to the Client. After completing this commission last month, the art was carefully packed and double insulated against damp weather then sent two day registered mail. Though each piece is handled differently, the goal to ensure the piece arrives intact is the same. This piece was an unframed drawing, so protecting the corners and making sure the work wouldn’t bend was the priority. In the image above #1 – #3, the art work is placed in a sturdy cardboard envelope. Image #4, it was then wrapped in bubble plastic then wrapped in plastic again.( not shown). Finally, image #6, the art was placed in a second outer cardboard envelope.

New Commissioned Work

This commission for a new Client was completed last month. If you’ve seen earlier posts here on the blog I started experimenting with collage last year. From that starting point came the ink pen & collages called the African Attire Series. This commission was the first that incorporated the collage technique apart from the series. It’s rewarding to see the work expand in new directions.
