ABOUT THIS PAINTING

"Yahweh Shammoth” © 2017  yvette watson yvette watson fine art

“Yahweh Shammoth” is a digital work of art composed from several original paintings and is a scene from the 2017 Christmas Movie “Yahweh Shammoth”. This name found in the old testament of the bible means “The Lord is There”. The new testament equivalent, “Emmanuel”—the name given to the Lord Jesus Christ means “God with Us”. God is TRUTH and every member of the Trinity: God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Son and the Holy Spirit work harmoniously to lead us into a relationship with God—a Heavenly Father who is ALWAYS there for His children. You can see the movie, "Yahweh Shammoth" in the New Work section of this Issue. Read the December Issue's, Feature Article  "A Royal Invitation",  to learn about God's invitation to know Him.

JUST ASK

As you begin 2018 my hope is for your confidence in the knowledge of God’s desire to give those who belong to Him only what He knows is best, right and perfect in accordance with His will.

God’s best gift is Himself and eternal life through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He also promises provision for all needs and as we delight in Him, the desires of our hearts. We need only ask in line with His will. 1 John 5:14-15. It is God’s all consuming love, character and faithfulness that is completely trustworthy and far exceeds the love of earthly fathers Matthew 7:7-11. Think it’s too good to be true ?? Even our doubts will not deter God from keeping His promises. 2 Timothy 2:13. Have an INCREDIBLE New Year !!

BOOK REVIEW

"Crowns"

"Crowns" by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry is a compilation of photographs of women in hats. Published in 2000 the book is a wonderful tribute to the history and tradition of black women and their love affair with hats in the black church. Being a Black Christian woman who appreciates fashion, am personally familiar with the topic.

Photographer Micheal Cunningham did an excellent job capturing his subjects. Each portrait with their beloved chapeaus is a window that reveals an aspect of the ladies’ persona. His use of light, environment and composition is reminiscent of 1930’s classic Hollywood films that beautifully and dramatically showcases the stunning elegance of black and white as an artistic medium. Accompanying the photographs are interviews by journalist Craig Marberry that give the reader further insights into the women’s lives and love of hats.

The brief forward is by the late famed author Maya Angelou. The book is beyond attractive. Gracing the cover is a photograph of an older woman regally coifed in a feathered hat, with blurred pews in the background. The matte finish was aptly chosen to contrast the embossed gold title of the book. As previously mentioned the photographs are black and white but the addition of gold carried throughout the book make the design even more refined. Not oversized, it’s a good read and a “keeper” if you enjoy great photography, and hats !!

Michael Cunningham has published several books of photographs, additionally a play was produced based on the book "Crowns". Use the links below to learn more about Mr. Cunningham and his work.
