ABOUT THIS PAINTING

"The Gift” © 1997  yvette watson yvette watson fine art

“The Gift“ is one of three Christmas cards completed in 1995. This simple painting with vibrant contrasting colors, family, hearth and home is so picturesque. Giving and getting Christmas gifts is great but the most important gift we can ever receive is God’s gift of His son the Lord Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas !!

The Lord God Almighty wants us to know Him. He is the Sovereign creator and owner of everything in the universe including mankind and throughout human history He’s taken great pains to reveal Himself through creation, scripture and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. From the first man Adam, Eve his wife, through subsequent generations, to this day God has drawn and invited men to Himself for worship, fellowship and salvation.

The concept of royalty provides the proper framework and best illustrates the right perspective and attitude we should have of God’s relation to man. As the omnipotent and Sovereign Ruler and King of His creation we are His subjects and subject to His authority and laws. God does not need our worship, fellowship or salvation. All creation is commanded to worship God and does so perfectly. Worship exalts His attributes, lordship, greatness and power. Those who comprehend His brilliance will offer worship in response to it. Fellowship with God is to enjoy His presence, it reveals relationship and intimacy. God’s righteous standards require perfection no man can attain. According to God’s law

failure to meet those standards brings the penalty of death — eternal separation from God. Mercifully God has made provision so none should see death unless he chooses it. Salvation from death by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s supreme expression and gift of love. When we trust Christ as our Saviour, we are adopted into God’s family as His sons and daughters. The Sovereign Ruler and King becomes our loving Father and we become His royal heirs. Clearly these invitations from God our creator are solely for our benefit.

Rejecting God’s invitation to know Him is rejecting the only means given to eternal life. God’s heart for all men is for us to belong to Him by trusting in His son but He gives us free will to chose 2 Peter 3:9-10. In the bible we learn God used the nation of Israel to pave the way for all nations to become apart of His family. The Old Testament name Yahweh Shammoth - means “God is There“. In the New testament the Lord Jesus Christ’s name Emmanuel - means  "God with Us“. He wants us to know Him but will we know Him as Saviour or Judge ??

Kehinde Wilde and Amy Sherald - were selected to paint the former President and First Lady for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. African Attire - The Women : Drawings

These drawings continue the African Attire Series - The Women. Playing with lines and patterns is not new for me — have done this for some time. Was recently inspired to start a doodle challenge after seeing a video presentation from Black fine artist, designer & illustrator, Andrea Pippins. In 2015 she encouraged her tribe via social media to participate in a 21 Day Doodle Challenge, doodling 21 days for 10-15 minutes a day. The pieces below were done in minutes and in was great !! — so far have produced 8 pieces. God willing more to come ! Ms. Pippins has published two books "I love my Hair" a coloring book to inspire black women and girls to embrace their hair and "Becoming Me". Learn more about Miss Pippins her work and books at her website. God Bless You
