This series of paintings began with an exploration of the necessity of work. "To The City" was the first sketch and the others were developed as I thought about the different ways we commute to work. Although there are exceptions most people need to work to earn a living. Man was created to work and this series is an observation and celebration of that necessity and privilege. Great or small, factory worker, restaurateur, cabdriver, judge, lawyer or pizza maker — all contribute to the machine that makes the economy run. These pieces honor the ways we earn our daily bread. — yvette watson
